Clinic Skill Levels - U12 - U15
As a proper Ballard volleyball club with strong fishing roots we use Salmon species to designate young athletes skill levels. We try to offer clinics across the range of experience each year.
Pink Salmon (Humpies)
This is a player that is just starting out. Pink Salmon players may be touching a volleyball for the first time or coming off of their first season of recreational volleyball. The player is still learning the basics of serving and passing and will not have been exposed to positions or rotations yet.
Silver Salmon (Coho)
Silver Salmon is a player that has completed a couple seasons of recreational volleyball and has started to develop their serving and passing skills. They may have completed a couple of clinics and may have started playing JV volleyball in middle school. The young athletes are getting introduced to setting, rotations and a more competitive game environment. Coho players typically have taken to volleyball and are looking to get more serious about the sport.

Sockeye Salmon (Reds)
Sockeye Salmon is a player that has advanced past recreational volleyball and has likely played a couple seasons of middle school volleyball. They have a strong interest in the sport, have done clinics and may have played their first season of club volleyball. Red Salmon players likely have a strong foundation in volleyball with sound skills in serving, passing, setting and are developing as hitters. They are learning and playing a formal rotation, 4-2, 5-1, 6-2 and starting to show interest in particular positions. Most U14 players will be at this level.
King Salmon (Chinook/Springs)
King Salmon is a player that has played multiple seasons of varsity middle school volleyball and likely has 1-2 seasons of club volleyball under their belt. They are proficient in the fundamental skills, know and play a formal rotation, 4-2, 5-1, 6-2.
Chinook athletes are passionate about volleyball and want to continue playing club and high school volleyball. They are focused on learning refined skills and competing at a high level with athletes at a similar skill level. Most U15 players will be at this level. |
